the nine-patch is one of the earliest forms of patchwork. the block involves joining 9 squares to form a larger square. in its simplest form, the block is constructed of 9 plain squares. using a variety of colors, the random color changes throughout, create additional patches within in each square.
approximate size: 36" square
gauge: 20 sts over 4 inches
yarn: 9 skeins weepaca by Big Bad Wool [50% fine washable merino / 50% baby alpaca; 95 yds / 86 m] 8 skeins for centers and 1 skein for trim
tools: size 7 (4.5 mm) DPN's, size 7 (4.5 mm) 16" to 24" circular needles, 4 stitch markers, 1 different style stitch marker, tapestry needle for seaming.
Skills Recommended: working in the round with DPN's, changing to circular needles, yo increases, seaming.
